Arent & Pyke

Arent&Pyke is a Sydney-based design practice, formed by Juliette Arent and Sarah-Jane Pyke, Since the formation of the practice in 2007， Arent&Pyke have fine tuned their philosophy around what it means to make a space sing. While they have created a multi-award winning practice and earnt the respect of their industry peers, the value they bring remains in the emotional connections they create and how those, in turn, drive aesthetic and practical decisions.

Throughout the house, carpets and lighting were all replaced but the dark-stained timber floorboards have remained as a rich backdrop for the neutral hues. Roman blinds and curtains made by Simple Studio in plain fabrics continue the serene theme..

Eventually every room in the house was reimagined, redefined and given new life. "As the design process progressed the more enthusiastic the client became to further change," says Juliette. "For me, the success of a project lies in the way the owners interact with the new spaces and how comfortable the transition is," she says.

With a fine heritage building such as this 1885 sandstone home, designing and decorating a 21st century iteration is a high-wire act. Respect for the elegance of the architecture was key, as Arent Pyke's aimed for the sweet spot between classic and contemporary. 1885 House is undeniably grand, however for this family of five, it needed to feel relaxed, comfortable, and playful with a wow factor..
